So, I figured some of you don’t do rereads (which is TOTALLY fine!), and I thought you might want a quick refresher on what you should remember and what happened at the end of the book!
SPOILERS AHEAD!!! 👀
Gabrielle Vadala’s freshman year at Nexus Crest University was anything but ordinary. Between her uncontrollable hunger for vampire blood, her complicated relationship with Michael Malec, and the growing mystery surrounding a series of brutal murders, Gabrielle found herself caught in a world far more dangerous than she ever imagined. Her investigation led her to uncover disturbing connections between the murders, powerful vampire families, and a secret organization operating behind the scenes. Along the way, she suffered devastating losses, including Bernard’s gruesome death and her already fractured friendship with Axel became even more complicated as old betrayals resurfaced. Meanwhile, Gabrielle and Michael’s relationship grew into something neither could easily deny, despite the secrets separating them. Gabrielle also continued working with Lex (a mysterious bloodborne vampire who doesn't know anything about their society) to uncover the truth behind the organization they were hunting. What began as an investigation into corruption and murder ultimately revealed something far more sinister: a cult of powerful vampires known as the C.S.E. (Children of the Sacrament Embodied), who were kidnapping humans, auctioning them off as commodities, and performing horrific sacrificial rituals in the name of their Creator.
And then came the ending. (SPOILERS AHEAD)
During their covert mission, Gabrielle and Lex followed a trail of clues into the C.S.E.’s underground world, where they witnessed the ritualistic slaughter of innocent human female victims and the horrifying use of a newborn bloodborne child in the cult’s plans for rebirth. When the child was chosen as the divine feminine sacrifice, and the cult mistook Gabrielle for the divine feminine’s mother, she refused to let them take another innocent life. She turned on the priests, shepherds, and acolytes, unleashing a terrifying power within herself as she slaughtered those responsible for the atrocities. But the victory came at a devastating cost. Jacek, the mysterious man Gabrielle had been hunting, revealed himself among the cult’s leaders and made it clear that he had connections to many other royal families such as her father, Alric Vadala. Despite Gabrielle’s attempt to save the child and escape with Lex, Jacek’s allies overpowered them, took the baby, and left Lex unconscious. Gabrielle fought back, killing Fiorenzo Verrone’s followers, but Fiorenzo managed to plunge a silver blade into her heart. As Gabrielle lay dying, she began to surrender to the peace of death, believing her life was finally over. Then Michael found her. Holding Gabrielle in his arms, he pressed Fiorenzo’s torn out heart to her mouth, urging her to drink. He pleaded with her to return, eventually feeding her his own blood to bring her back from the brink of death.
In the final moments of Nexus Crest, Gabrielle realizes Michael knows her secret: she can consume vampire blood, something that should kill any other vampire. He offers her his wrist, and she drinks from him as her vision fades to black. With Jacek still out there, the C.S.E.’s plans unresolved, and Gabrielle and Michael’s connection forever changed, one thing is certain: the nightmare is far from over.

I also brought a lot more of my poetic side into the prologue and parts of the first chapter. I absolutely love poetic wordplay, hidden meanings, and mysterious language, and I hope you enjoy unraveling it just as much as I enjoyed writing it.
